How does Rand Protect my money?
At Rand, we deeply understand the paramount importance of security and trust in managing your financial assets. These aren't just buzzwords for us; they're the foundation upon which our entire operation is built. Our steadfast commitment to these values is what sets us apart in the world of financial services. Let's explore the layers of security measures and practices we've established to protect your money and earn your trust.

Protecting your money is the foundation of how Rand is built. We combine over-collateralized lending markets, institutional-grade custody, strict European regulation, and multiple layers of account security to keep your funds safe. Here's how each part works:

1. Protection through over-collateralized lending markets

The Earn Account does not invest in speculative assets. Instead, your money is connected to stablecoin lending markets that operate with over-collateralized loans.

This means:

  • Borrowers must deposit more collateral than the amount they borrow
  • These loans typically operate at 45% Loan-to-Value (LTV)
  • If someone borrows €100, they lock up around €150 worth of assets

Why does this matter?

Because if the borrower cannot repay, the system automatically liquidates their collateral to cover the loan.

This model significantly reduces risk for depositors, as loans are always backed by more value than is lent out.

These mechanisms have been tested for years across the biggest and most reputable DeFi lending protocols and are designed specifically to protect the lender (you).

2. Institutional-grade custody with Copper

We have partnered with  Copper to:

MPC custody (Multi-Party Computation)

Instead of storing private keys in one place (which can be vulnerable), MPC splits the key into multiple encrypted parts. This makes unauthorized access extremely difficult.

$500 million of insurance coverage

Copper’s insurance is underwritten by Lloyd’s of London, one of the most reputable insurance markets in the world. This provides an extra safety net for digital assets held in custody.

ISO and SOC 2 certifications

These certifications ensure Copper.  follows internationally audited standards for cybersecurity, operational controls, and data protection.

Segregation of assets

Your assets remain separate from Rand's own assets.

Even in the unlikely event that Rand were to face insolvency, your funds remain safe and separate.

3. Regulatory protection under the Bank of Spain

Rand is registered with the Bank of Spain as:

  • A virtual-to-fiat exchange service provider

Registration number: D697

This means:

  • Rand must comply with strict European AML/CTF regulations
  • We are subject to ongoing supervision and audits
  • We must maintain clear operational, security, and governance standards
  • We follow transparent reporting obligations

Being under the Bank of Spain adds a formal, institutional layer of security and regulatory oversight that is not present in unregulated platforms.

4. Strong account-level protection

Even the most secure financial system can be compromised if someone gains access to your account.

To prevent this, Rand provides multiple layers of user-level protection:

Biometric verification

Fingerprint or facial recognition ensures only you can log in from your device.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

2FA adds an extra step for sensitive operations like withdrawals.

Even if someone has your password, they still cannot move your funds.

Withdrawal whitelist

You can restrict withdrawals so that your money can only be sent to addresses you have manually approved.

This prevents unauthorized or fraudulent transfers—even if an attacker gains access.

Encrypted infrastructure

All data is encrypted in transit and at rest, ensuring that communication between your device and Rand is secure.

In short

Rand protects your money through:

  • Over-collateralized lending markets that back every loan with more collateral than the value being borrowed
  • Copper’s institutional custody with MPC technology, $500M insurance, and certified security standards
  • European regulatory oversight under the Bank of Spain
  • Strong account protection tools like biometrics, 2FA, and withdrawal whitelisting

This combination creates a security model designed to protect your funds across every layer from the underlying markets to the custody infrastructure, all the way to your own account access.

Risk Disclaimer

Like any investment, the products of Rand carry risks. Although we work with over-collateralized markets and mechanisms designed to protect depositors, there is always a possibility of partial capital loss due to unforeseen events. Only invest money that you are willing to put at risk.
